Today, anyone can easily whip up an interactive video, post it on YouTube and get lots of attention. Audio will look to some like the old fashioned way to do things.
Consider this, though: Are you trying to multi-task, during your day? Do you find yourself wanting to read or watch something very interesting on TV or online but end up losing focus?
It takes a lot of energy to listen and watch a video ... you cannot do anything else while you watch so the video should be short. This is great, for some types of messages!
But if you require your user's attention for longer periods of time, audio just might keep him listening while trying to do other stuff.
What do you think?

The Great Thing About Audio
So, what's so great about audio that it can help you acheive numerous goals?
When placing audio on your website, whether it's in a presentation, a video or simply as a recording that the visitor can click on, you are making a huge step in promoting your goals, no matter what they are.
That's right. It doesn't matter if your goal is to sell a product or a service, to convey a certain idea or to get people to stay a little longer and perform some action on your site.
Why is it that audio can help all of your site's goals?
The internet is changing the way people buy, the way the meet, converse, the way people spend their free time and the way they work. These are all very big changes that should be taken into consideration when preparing your website, online products and services.
But one thing that the internet has not been able to change so far (and will likely not be able to change at all) is the way that we perceive things.
You can read a lot about what will grab a visitor's attention, what will make visitors stay longer or quickly bounce back from your site, but what none of these people tell you is, that some of us just prefer listening to reading. This cannot be changed, but still, website builders mostly ignore that and offer the user one option to surf: visually. Whether it's text of pictures, it doesn't matter. Some people will choose audio, if they were only given a choice.
Researches have shown that while some people find it easier to remember and understand something that they have read, others find it very difficult and prefer listening.
So by simply giving your visitors the ability to listen to what you have to say, you are expanding your reach and can land many customers - simply by offering them an alternative.

Preparing Your Text
If you already have a text that you would like to record, there are a couple of pointers that can help you get better results from your audio talent.
1. Emphasize with bold or a larger font or even both the parts that you would like to emphasize.
2. Write "break" or "pause" when you are not sure how long the pause between sentences should be. If you are sure, be specific and write "5 seconds", for example, so the recording will be exactly as you need it to be.
3. If you a need a more formal voice, or a smiling, greeting tone, mention it beforehand.
Most audio talents will have no problem accomodating these requests.
